The star that refused to hurry

In old Chinese astronomy, Jupiter was Tai Sui, a great being who could step down from the sky and walk the earth in human form. The name also appears in the Ben Cao Gang Mu本草纲目, China's great herbal encyclopedia, attached to something far slower: a strange, fleshy growth that spends years underground before it becomes anything at all. The ancient force is associated with time, transition, and the turning of life’s cycles.

We rolled that idea into incense. Tai Sui Incense is hand-rolled from dried ginger, mugwort, atractylodes, and sandalwood that took decades to grow. It is for the forty quiet minutes after a heavy or oily meal, when you feel heavy, stuffed, foggy, the table is done and the rush is over.

Mugwort and atractylodes are one of the oldest smoke pairs in Chinese practice. People burned them at doorways in early summer and after long winters, whenever a house needed to feel clean again. Just an old habit of using warm plant smoke to mark a fresh start, kept exactly the way it was kept.
