The monkey that reads yin and yang

Everyone knows the Monkey King. What most people don't know is that Journey to the West actually names four spiritual monkeys, and each one gets a different gift. Sun Wukong got the fighting.

The Chi Kao monkey(赤尻马猴) got something quieter. In the words of the old book, it knows yin and yang, it handles human affairs, it comes and goes freely, and it avoids death by extending life. Chi Kao monkey reads the situation early and is somewhere else when trouble arrives.

TCM has a name for what's worn thin: zheng qi (正气), the upright, defensive energy that keeps the outside, outside. When it's strong, you shrug things off. When it's low, everything lands.

The old monkey story is about exactly that. A creature that notices the balance has tipped, and moves before anything hits.
