The monkey that reads yin and yang
Everyone knows the Monkey King. What most people don't know is that Journey to the West actually names four spiritual monkeys, and each one gets a different gift. Sun Wukong got the fighting.
The Chi Kao monkey(赤尻马猴) got something quieter. In the words of the old book, it knows yin and yang, it handles human affairs, it comes and goes freely, and it avoids death by extending life. Chi Kao monkey reads the situation early and is somewhere else when trouble arrives.
We rolled that spirit into incense: noticing you're depleted before you actually break. Chi Kao Ma Hou Incense is built around natural amber, warm and dense, blended and rolled entirely by hand. For the evenings when you're running on empty and something needs to stand guard while you refill.
You know the warnings.
Five hours of sleep, and you call it a lifestyle. Coffee at eight, coffee again at two, brain still fogged at eight p.m. Something's been going around the office and you're quietly waiting for your turn. You're not sick exactly. You're just low, all the time, like a phone that never gets past 40%.
TCM has a name for what's worn thin: zheng qi (正气), the upright, defensive energy that keeps the outside, outside. When it's strong, you shrug things off. When it's low, everything lands.
The old monkey story is about exactly that. A creature that notices the balance has tipped, and moves before anything hits.
- Amber, the slow gold: The blend is built around natural amber. Ground into incense, it burns deep and sweet, dense and resinous. The smoke hangs close instead of shooting to the ceiling, and the scent stays in the room.
- A golden bell around the room: Old kung fu legends describe the "golden bell," a shield trained around the body that nothing could crack. That's the feeling this incense goes for. The smoke comes off slow and heavy and settles over a space like a bell lowered over you. Mellow, continuous, unbothered.
- Hand-rolled, the slow way: Every stick is ground, blended and rolled by hand in small batches with natural plant binder, no dipping, no synthetic fragrance oils.
- For the ones who run themselves empty: Night shifters, new parents, deadline survivors, and everyone whose calendar is a solid block. No incense can give you back your evenings. This one just makes the evening you do get feel like it's on your side.
- Dimensions: Box of 120 incense sticks. (Approx. 40 minutes burn time per stick)
